We raised our hand and prayed a prayer. Now, our salvation will just work itself out, right? Not exactly. While Jesus accomplished the work of salvation more than two thousand years ago, we are still called to “work out” our salvation today. This doesn’t mean we try to earn what we’ve already been given. It doesn’t mean we try to finish what has already been completed. It means we consciously “work out” what Christ alone has already “worked in” to our lives. We let Him convert the gift of salvation into action. God is opposed to earning, but not to effort. In fact, this world could use more effort from the Church! There are so many needs, so many problems, so many tragedies all around us. Come on, Church. Let’s get to work!
