Purposefully One

“Why did you get married?” The question of purpose is a vital one, yet when it comes to marriage, far too many people don’t have the right answer. Marriage is not the means to my own end of personal happiness. Marriage was designed by God to clearly display the covenant love of Jesus Christ for His Church. My own ideas of romance and personal fulfillment are secondary. A healthy marriage can only be found through a healthy relationship with Christ. When we are right with Him, we are free to love like He loves - unconditionally, unwaveringly and unrelentingly. We are free to forgive as we have been forgiven. We’re able to lay down our lives for our spouse instead of laying down the law. Often, the surest way to a better marriage is to stop focusing so much on marriage and to start focusing on the mission of making disciples together as husband and wife.
