No Strings Attached

Key Scripture: Acts 4:32-5:11

The early church set an incredible example for the church today. They were united, sacrificial, loving, and truly spirit filled, demonstrated as they met the needs of all who were in their midst. They gave with no expectation of reward or recognition. Unfortunately, that isn’t always the case with us. We tend to have hearts consumed with our own interests as opposed to the interest of others. We may give of our time, talents, or resources, but are we trying to get something in return? Do we give…with strings attached?

Key Scripture: Philippians 3:12-21

A New Year often brings a sense of optimism as we reflect on all the possibilities in life. It’s a time we set new goals, start new routines, and establish a new set of priorities. All of these things can be quite beneficial, but we must also ask ourselves: What kinds of goals are we making? While failing to achieve our goals can be discouraging, achieving the wrong goals can be destructive. What goals are you focused on this new year? Are they aligned with God’s goals for you? Let this next year be one where you press on towards the goal that brings the true prize.

Truth Be Told

Every day, we are bombarded by countless ideas, opinions, and beliefs through media, social media, friendships and more. Studies show that the average American is exposed to 4,000 plus advertisements in a single day. Every one of them attempt to capture our thoughts and emotions in order to influence our decisions. So, what do we do with all of the different influences and opinions? In a chorus of voices, how do we know which voice to trust? We must anchor ourselves in the Truth. The sound doctrine of God’s Word teaches us Truth and provides the blueprint for a healthy church and a healthy life. Do you know the blueprint?

Key Scripture:  Titus 2:1-10
But as for you, teach what accords with sound doctrine.

Matthew 16:24-26
24 Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 25 For whoever would save his life[a] will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. 26 For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?

Philippians 1:27
Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in the one Spirit, striving together as one for the faith of the gospel

Redeeming Regret

We all have regrets. Maybe it’s the game-winning goal you missed in high school, or the recent promotion that passed you by. It might be the choices you made that led to your current loveless marriage, or the strained relationship with your wayward child. We can spend a lifetime trying to cope with our regrets, but there is a better solution. God offers us redemption. In Christ, payment has been made for every sin, every loss and every mistake we’ve ever made. His redemption gives us unquenchable joy, divine purpose, an eternal inheritance and a personal relationship with our Creator. Let go of regret, and rest at the feet of your Redeemer.

Conquering Compromise

It’s easy to know the difference between right and wrong. The challenge is when you know what’s right won’t be easy. Right decisions are usually costly, risky or unpopular, but at the end of the day - they’re right! Pontius Pilate found himself stuck between what he knew to be right and trying to appease a bloodthirsty crowd in the wrong. He tried to make both happen, but the result was one compromise after another. Pilate’s choices eventually led him to betray that which he knew was the right decision. While our decisions today are radically different, the question still stands: Will we be conquered by compromise or conquer compromise?

Grave Robber

We all have been overwhelmed and found ourselves at a point where there seemed to be no hope. We feel as if all is lost. However, that is simply not the truth! God knows and cares about each one of us. He sees exactly what our situation is and understands it far greater then we do. When it comes to God, He can truly take the impossible circumstances we face and produce something good. He is in the business of providing hope to the hopeless, joy to the disheartened, and life to the dead! God wants to work in your life today, will you take a step towards trusting in His power?
