Know Your Enemy

In many ways, this key tactic from The "Art of War" has been long neglected by the people of God. Make no mistake: We are at war!  There is a very real enemy – the Father of Lies, the Ruler of this World, the Devil – who comes to rob and kill and destroy (John 10:10). He hates God and he hates you! Whether you realize it or not, you and your family are under attack. When another person hurts us, we must remember that “our struggle is not against flesh and blood.” We must know our real enemy.

Obey and Honor

A wise man once observed, “Raising kids is part joy and part guerilla warfare.” While parenting certainly isn’t easy, there are few other more worth-while investments in life. Typically, those who learn to obey their parents as children will more readily obey God as adults. For this reason, one of the greatest gifts we can give our kids is a clear and consistent example of obedience to God. The goal of parenting is to make Christ-disciples of our kids. This means we must discipline as He disciplines – for their good, not our own. We must also give instruction that helps our kids know, love and follow Jesus – not just us!
